Escape Winter With These 7 Tropical Getaways
Shoveling sidewalks, windchill, black ice, frostbite: the list of things to hate about winter goes on and on. Luckily, if you’re in serious need of a tan and some cocktails on the beach, there are some parts of the world that don’t experience cold and gloom this time of year. We’ve compiled a list of 7 of the best tropical winter getaways and they’re all just a plane (or boat!) ride away. You won’t even have to worry about packing, because we picked out the best swimsuit and Woosh Sunnies combo for each destination. We’re feeling toastier already.
1. Bora Bora, French Polynesia
While we on the northern hemisphere are freezing our butts off during winter, Bora Bora is experiencing its summer months. Average temperatures range from the mid to high 80s--perfecting for laying out on a beach. Summertime does mean higher rainfall, but that makes it perfect for anyone hoping to avoid crowds or score a good deal.
2. Bradenton Beach, Florida
If you want to stay within the continental U.S., it doesn’t get much better than Bradenton Beach. Spend your days dolphin watching or rent a kayak and chill out with some manatees. Best yet, there are plenty affordable Airbnbs for rent in the area, so get your best friends together and start planning your road trip now.
3. Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia
If you’re a surfer, you probably know that December through March is the best time to catch waves in Australia. But even if you’re a hodad, the warm summer weather is perfect for whale watching or a trip to Captain Cook lookout.
Kailua-Kona is Hawaii’s baby island in age, but not in size! Temperatures stay in the low eighties all year, which technically makes this a year-round getaway. If snorkeling with turtles just isn’t idyllic enough for you, go humpback whale watching or hike one of the numerous mountains on the island.
5. Muscat, Oman
If you like snorkeling, Muscat may already be your go-to tropical destination. There are plenty deep sea canyons to explore and an array of marine life will probably join you along the way. But Muscat isn’t only impressive below sea-level, among the new construction, there are Portugese forts along the shoreline that date all the way back to the 16th century!
6. Negril, Jamaica
For a tropical vacation, it doesn’t get much better (or more scenic) than seven mile beach. Put on your Woosh sunnies, sit back, and relax. You don’t have anything to worry about anything but white sands, palm trees, and crystal clear waters. Wait, is Negril heaven?
7. St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
Nearly fully recovered from the hurricanes last season, St. John is still one of the world’s best tropical getaways. Spend your nights dining on fresh seafood and your days lying out along Trunk Bay, named for the local Leatherback turtle population.
